Basically the usual although Diaco sounds almost mystical talking defense–hope the players get it.

QB battle–don’t know what to make of Kelly’s comments saying battle is dead even. Hearing that you could conclude that Crist is static or maybe regressing while Rees is rapidly improving and runs the offense better.

I still think Crist starts but gets yanked when he starts throwing dirtballs. Can only conclude it’s all mental with him.

Rees on the other hand must have improved passing strength dramatically–say long crisp passes. He was so dreadful in the USC game–I’ve got to see it to believe it..

Greatly surprised that frosh tight end Ben Koyack is the biggest TE on the team at close to 260lbs. He plays alot this year.

Finally, feel real bad for Mike Ragone–another injury will limit his practice time. Barring all the injuries, he could have been outstanding.

Day 1 Fall Camp

ILB–looks like most competitive with Calabrese, Fox and MacDonald fighting for the spot opposite Teo. Whoever complements Teo the best will start–I like Carlo.

QB–think it’s Crist barring injury or mental breakdown.

No doubt that freshman Williams, Tuitt and Lynch will play as will redshirt Nix. Also no doubt barring injury and if they live up to hype all four will go early to NFL draft. So we have 3 seasons out of them. So enjoy while you can and hope Teo stays for senior season.

Should Golson redshirt this season?

With fall camp only three weeks away the quaterback question at Notre Dame is still on everybody minds. Who is going to start? Who should the back up be? Who should the change-up guy be? Where does Andrew Hendrix fit in? Should Everett Golson be redshirted? Who is going to tranfer? Lots of questions. I like Dayne Crist but he gets rattled way to easy and is prone to injury. Tommy Rees showed a lot of heart at the end of last season and found ways to win but is he the right guy out of the four quarterback we have now to lead the team for this season and in the future? All roads lead to Golson being the future star but do we play him this season or save him and let him really learn the offense? My feeling is if we put Golson in over Hendrix we are going to lose Hendrix. It’s a very confusing situation over there at ND for QB. Thought?

DAYNE CRIST

If ever a guy was star crossed it’s Dayne. Came to ND to study under Weis and knew he would have to sit and backup Claussen.

He did all that, got injured. Weis leaves and Kelly comes in–square peg in round hole.

Thanks for all you have contributed on and off the field– You are truly a ND man.

TULSA 28 ND 27

In this absolutely must win game, Tulsa racked up over 200 yds. rushing and close to 200 yds. passing–that kid’s is 400 yds. You can’t win giving up those numbers week in and week out. ND on the other hand ran for about 120 yds. and over 300 in the air.

The ND sideline is starting to resemble visitors from the surrounding hospital wards.

If you watched the game their is little to say. But I will do my best:

noticed right at the start how hard Tulsa was hitting.
Dayne Crist was literally blasted out of his shoes on the sideline.
Tulsa OL and DLine outplayed ND and I’m still wondering where OLB’s are.
Down to 2 Running Backs.
OL-just don’t get how they can be so bad week in and week out. It doesn’t seem to matter how many OL line coaches we go thru. You will never be a winning team if you can’t consistently run the ball. At the end of the game, just a few good runs would make for a super easy FG.
Rees played well 4tds.
Clausen in game-ok pass to Floyd almost automatic TD but not with a true 2nd string freshman. You just do not do that. Kelly said he will always play aggressive–well that call was just plain stupid, especially for a guy who has been coaching 20 yrs.
Kelly proud how Rees just kept bouncing up after the hits he took. If he keeps getting hit like that-we’ll soon be onto our third QB. Why the hell doesn’t he say-I don’t want my QB touched and we will be working the OL hard for next 2 weeks and replace those not producing.

Final words–It will take a miracle for ND to win next 3 games.
