SIDE LINE DEMEANOR

I wish there was a football camp for coaches on how to conduct themselves during a game–Kelly should be an attendee.

It’s one thing to call out a player who makes a critical penalty such as unsportsmanlike conduct as opposed to someone who fumbles or throws an int.–that’s football.

Last thing a player needs is a vein popping head coach waiting for him on the sideline–especially on national tv.

Most asst coaches know what the head guy wants and they can pull the player aside and strongly counsel him.

The head coach should at least look like he’s calm as opposed to frantic for that rubs off on the players plus those issues can be addressed at practice.

Not to mention such antics might have an effect on recruits or their parents.

Kelly had Crist wound so tight he didn’t know if he was playing football or baseball.

On defense I always prefer, if you have a high energy, gung-ho DC that he coach from the sideline. Diaco has that type of personality–he could really rev up the defense, especially in tough games.

Hope we get a Bowl opponent we can obliterate.

Random Thoughts USC Game

The extravaganza Kelly set up flopped.

ND does not have an elite QB–and if you want to compete with the studs –you need one.

Freshman Lynch and Tuitt got schooled and worn out by a mediocre USC OL.

ND–entire team played way too tight–see extravaganza above.

Monte Kiffen ate Kelly alive.

Both OL & DL got beaten up by a subpar USC team.

USC tweets–ND quit!!

Kelly way too defensive about bye week–you get 2 wks to prepare–let the injured off not the rest of team with so much riding on this game.

As opposed to everyone else I would start Crist against Navy. Why–Rees a little hobbled and he has to be eased out to make room for Hendrix.

Alternate series if need be — Crist & Hendrix.

I do not want Crist to end his career with that fumble. Give this guy a final chance–he deserves it.

Bob Diaco has to start thinking — 1 year to think Navy — didn’t show vs. Air Force — way too soft and confused — SC knew and ran and passed all over the field — imagination!!!!

QB switch — why? Michael Floyd bored — super player but you get him the ball deep with a better QB.

Kelly and entire staff — Stanford waiting and Rees’s limitations will lose that game.

Long hair and tats only look good if you back it up.

Way too much hype–sorta like a Cecil B DeMille epic but with a bad ending.

Not going too much into nuts and bolts–just re watch the game. Whole team did not step up–really not ready for prime time. This is not a BCS team.

Next up Navy and cut blocks and option. Diaco really doesn’t have a clue on stopping the option.

Your lying eyes are not deceiving you. This game was bloody awful.

It was obvious right from the outset and throughout the game that ND was completely out coached, out played and outhit.

It seemed that the Pitt defensive coordinator was wired into Brian Kelly’s headset. It was also obvious that Bob Diaco was hopelessly confused as were the players.

Rees tossed a pick and fumbled as usual. He had absolutely zero pass protection. I have wondered why previous opponents didn’t just blitz all the time.

I have nothing good to say about the Offensive Line–each would get an F if I was evaluating them.

Defensive Line played well especially Aaron Lynch–that guy could make one of the All American squads by years end. Stephon Tuitt was very good also.

What genius had Louis Nix playing off the line–he also seemed to wear down as game went along. Was not impressed by the play of the OLB’S.

I don’t know what the deal is with Teo–he is not the dominant ILB that was projected by all.

Pitt took Michael Floyd completely out of the game

Offense:

Jonas Gray had a real nice 78yd touchdown run. MVP Offense

Tyler Eifert came through in the clutch.

Tommy Rees while befuddled managed to lead ND for the win.

DEFENSE:

Not impressed except for mentions above.

Carlo Calabrese MVP Defense for game saving pass knock away.

Pitt had like 4th and 38yds to go and Carlo ended up one on one and saved the game. The question I have–where was everyone else in this prevent defense–if that pass completed could have gone all the way.

Field Goal attempt–what the hell was a center doing placing the ball??? I admit I did not pay close attention to the holder until now but it makes no sense to me–at the very least, you want a holder who can move and possibly pass on a bobbled snap.

Pitt should have won this game–better team today.

4 games into the season and now standing at 2W 2L but this team is not improving–sort of treading water–both players and coaches.

Expected much much more but give the Pitt coaches and players credit–they wanted this game much much more and played like it.

What’s ahead–who the hell knows!!!!!!!!!

Whole host of coaches and player interviews available on Irish Illustrated, Subway Domer etc–check them out.

Basically the usual although Diaco sounds almost mystical talking defense–hope the players get it.

QB battle–don’t know what to make of Kelly’s comments saying battle is dead even. Hearing that you could conclude that Crist is static or maybe regressing while Rees is rapidly improving and runs the offense better.

I still think Crist starts but gets yanked when he starts throwing dirtballs. Can only conclude it’s all mental with him.

Rees on the other hand must have improved passing strength dramatically–say long crisp passes. He was so dreadful in the USC game–I’ve got to see it to believe it..

Greatly surprised that frosh tight end Ben Koyack is the biggest TE on the team at close to 260lbs. He plays alot this year.

Finally, feel real bad for Mike Ragone–another injury will limit his practice time. Barring all the injuries, he could have been outstanding.
