Sunday Review
Alabama demolished Michigan 41-14 and kept Denard Robinson completely in check although he did pass for 200 yards but only ran for about 20 yards. Good, Saban just gave Diaco the blueprint.
In other news, Charley Weis won 1st. game at Kansas beating South Dakota State 31-17. Dayne Crist was 17 f0r 36 for 169 yards including a TD pass to Mike Ragone. Not quite 50% completion rate and he overthrew 3 times in the end zone.
Before closing thoughts on Notre Dame lets see what future opponents did yesterday:
- Purdue beat Eastern Kentucky 48-6 QB Marve 295 yds. passing.
- Mich. State beat Boise State 17-13
- Michigan lost badly to Alabama 41-14 but Robinson 200 yds. passing.
- Miami beat Boston College 41-32 Morris passed for 207 yds.
- Stanford beat SanJose State QB threw just 125 yds.
- BYU beat Wash. State 30-6 QB 285 yds. passing.
- Oklahoma–no details yet
- Pitt lost to Youngstown State 31-17 QB passed for 239 yards.
- Boston College lost to Miami bot the BC QB passed for 441 yds.
- Wake beat a high school 20-17 QB 195 yds. passing.
- USC beat Hawaii 49-10 Barkley 351 yds. passing.
While the above tells us the scores I was more interested in the passing stats since the ND pass defense was atrocious. I am hopeful that this was due to the confusion the option attack presents and facing more traditional defenses we’ll see vast improvement. Not to optimistic about that.
All in all a good win and the subs and many freshman got on the field–that’s the only way you build quality depth.
