Tony Alford does it again and reels in 4 Star recruit Richard Yeargin 6’3″ 225 lb. Ft. Lauderdale Fla. OLB. Yeargin had offers from all over – SEC, Stanford, USC among many others. Yeargin committed this past Friday after visiting Florida. Another good pick up from the South.

Brian Kelly meets the press and confirms contract extension is just about final and ND will let everyone know very soon. Like all coaches in pre-season Kelly is optimistic for 2013 and wants to build on the 2012 success. Here is the press conference:

Vanderdoes Wins Appeal To Play In 2013

Well, as usual, the NCAA blew this call and severely crimps the real purpose of the National Letter of Intent that all recruits are required to sign. Now it is diminished so much that it really means nothing now.

So after 2 appeals they caved and let this kid break his signed contract – NCAA, look up signed contract, words do mean something – you know, or in your case, they just mean whatever you come up with.

With that said, I’m glad ND fought this to the end–nothing wrong with a kid sitting out a year–just might make him aware that a signature on a contract means what it says.

I was shocked when this kid signed but not at all surprised when he backed out.

This is going to cause a lot of problems going ahead especially with all the scumbag coaches out there (Urban) – they will just continue to recruit right up to the kid’s first class.

Real bad decision.

Notre Dame Football Camp will open August 5th.at the Shiloh Park Retreat in Marion Indiana for 4 practices. This is more about having the players bond as team mates and having a little fun and according to Kelly this type of experience helped greatly with his Cinncy teams.

Real practice in pads starts back at Notre Dame on August 9th. giving the team about 3 weeks practice before the Temple opener on August 31st.

Wide Receiver Corey Holmes, 4 Star 6’2″ 175 from St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Fort Lauderdale joins Justin Brent from Indiana as the second receiver in this class.

Holmes visited Notre Dame on 4 occasions and after just visiting UCLA opted for ND and committed today.

He was long expected to go with ND and had offers from all over the map. So we have 2 receivers, highly rated QB and probably the best RB recruit in the fold. Still looking for that big NG and DT.

So as we approach Fall Camp we have only 5-7 slots left to fill. Nice looking Class – so far.

Notre Dame Picks Up 14TH Commit Grant Blankenship

Starting to roll on the recruiting trail with 14th commit in the 2014 Class Grant Blankenship 6’5″ 240 DE/ OLB from Texas selects Irish over Oklahoma and others to help bolster the Defense. Right now, more of an OLB but ND hoping he grows into a Defensive End – very quick and agile.

Blankenship camped at ND this summer and made big impression on the Irish coaches regarding his overall athletic ability and helps bolster what they are trying to do on the “D”. Great pickup for us. This is important in that ND has had a hard time prying recruits out of the State of Texas. Kerry Cooks recruits Texas which has to be frustrating and landing Blankenship is a Big deal for him and ND.

Check out the clip.

Commit #13 for 2014 Class DE or OLB Jonathan Bonner

Bonner is a 3 Star recruit from Missouri currently about 6’4″ 240-250 who can play either the DE position but is fast enough to play OLB in this defense. As a DE he is similar to Kapron Lewis Moore but heavier at this stage.

Bonner has connections to ND – his uncle is former Safety Sergio Brown. Among others he had offers from Tenn. and Michigan but after camping at ND last week, he was offered and committed immediately.

This class filling nicely but still need a big Nose guard and another big DT along with a couple of ILB’s.

Time for Swarbrick and Kelly to get a new contract signed–really surprised at the delay. With recruiting entering final phase – get this done.

Jerry Tillery

Long time Notre Dame fan Jerry Tillery 6’6″ 320 Offensive Tackle from Shreveport Louisiana’s Evangel Christian H.S. spent the weekend at ND with his parents and before leaving gave Kelly his commitment. Can’t really remember when we last had a Louisiana player on the roster.

Tillery plans to enroll early and yes it’s a long way to go before 2015 signing day but this kid looks and sounds like a ND guy.

Hiestand is turning into a major recruiter.

Georgia Kicker Is Commit Number 12 For 2014 Class

Tyler Newsome from Carrolton Ga. at 6’3″ 190 4.5 Star wins the kicking contest Thursday with Kelly watching and Kelly offers. Friday Newsome officially commits to ND. Wasn’t even thinking about a kicker this week but kid really looks good both punting and hitting FG’s.

With ND’s really awful special teams, this kid can really help regarding field position – check out this clip, kid looks damn good.

Notre Dame Gets Their QB For 2014 Class

4 Star QB DeShone Kizer 6’4″ 215 dual threat QB Toledo Central Catholic (Ohio) became the 11Th commit for the 2014 class. He visited ND this past weekend escorted by Brian Kelly himself – finally got the offer he had been waiting for and thus canceled his trip to LSU scheduled for this Friday – that’s good news in itself. He fits Kelly’s scheme perfectly.

Here is his highlight reel:

So, by my count that leaves about 8-9 slots left and I really hope they can land a NG and DT – I just can’t see Tuitt returning if he’s a projected a 1st round in the Pro draft. Nix also gone so we need some beef on the interior DL.

Things shaping up nicely – if we can hold these guys.

Vanderdoes To UCLA

5 Star DT Eddie Vanderdoes opted to not attend Notre Dame and will attend UCLA. Reason given – he wanted to stay closer to home. Notre Dame has indicated they will not waive LOI and Vanderdoes appeal to NCAA for waiver has also been denied.

This means that he will not play in 2013 and also loses a year of eligibility. UCLA is about a 7 hour drive yet both CAL and Nevada are only about 2 hour drive. Too much internet traffic about this situation out of UCLA – one can only conclude tampering but you gotta prove it.

With all that said and the way it played out – he would have been a one year wonder ala Aaron Lynch in all likelihood. Better off without him.
