Can’t Believe It

Just when RB situation looked promising Amir Carlisle breaks an ankle–so no Spring for him.

Niklas is confirmed going to TE

Cam McDaniel switches from RB to CB–don’t know how that will work. I would give him a shot as Punt Returner.

Looks like Kelly giving all 4 QB’s a shot to win position–hope it’s Kiel as 1 or 2.

Kick In The Nuts

One week before Spring Practice Tee Shepard leaves Notre Dame and is no longer enrolled. I never thought that Darby, Greenberry or Shepard were solid and I will be shocked if Davonte Neal ever plays for ND.

Charlie taking care of his guys: Mike Ragone Ok’d for 6th year and going to Kansas and maybe ILB Anthony MacDonald will soon follow. Both of these guys battled injuries throughout their time at ND and I wish them the best of luck. Kansas is now my 2nd favorite team and I will follow them closely.

On a positive note Amir Carlisle ok’d to play for ND this year–he has 3 years of eligibility.

Spring Game April 21st 1:30 PM will be televised by the NBC SPORTS CHANNEL think that was the Versus channel.

Hope for an injury free Spring.

Third Commit for 2013 Class

As anticipated, James Onwualu 6’2″ 205 lb. WR from Cretin Derham HS in Minn. commits to ND.

It should be pointed out that he is very good friends with Michael Floyd and has been working out with him.

James could also be used as a RB–very versatile–good get all around and if he is even half the player Floyd is a star in the making.

Weekend of 3/24 looming large as top notch recruits will be on campus–hopefully some will pull the trigger.

Steve Elmer no longer alone as Jacob Matuska 6’5″ 240 lb DE from Bishop Hartley, Columbus Ohio commits.

Matuska could play TE or DE–Notre Dame recruited him for the defensive side of the ball.

Big Time recruit and longtime ND fan–we really need this type of kid.

There was a time that virtually every Catholic HS footballer would die to play for ND– we have to keep recruiting guys like Matuska–hell give me a tough mean 2 star that really wants ND any day over the prima donnas. We should be able to get 4 OL’s every year out of these schools, not to mention a big fullback.

Spring Training starts Mar. 21 and wraps up with the Blue/Gold game April 21st. Just can’t wait to see all the stretching videos.

What we need:

QB–desperately –someone Must step up.
CB’s–need strong showing from at least 2
RG-RT–a must-hopefully a good battle
WR–c’mon anybody- position wide open
RB–one power back
Safety– Slaughter has one spot–other wide open

Calabrese has to shed pounds and report in much better shape.

Safety Chris Badger will report in June–back from Mormon mission.

Spring Game: 4/21 at 1:30est lets hope televised like last year.

Pro Tryouts: Only Mike Floyd and Harrison Smith look to be drafted–rest of ND invitees, probably won’t be drafted–maybe Blanton late.

Just when you thought 2012 recruiting over the saga of Davonte Neal pops up again.

I have no inside info but it has been reported that he is now switching to complete his senior HS year to another school. What? 3 months to go–don’t get it. Kelly apparently is ok with it.

This might all be innocent circumstances but it screams “prima donna” considered with all that went before.

I, won’t believe until he enrolls in June and even then don’t see him lasting 4 yrs. If Kelly yells at him probably faint. Hope I’m wrong.

NCAA RULES CHANGES

Briefly–Kickoffs from the 35 yard line to encourage touchbacks and reduce injuries. Problem receiving team gets ball on 25 yd line as opposed to the 20. So, most coaches will try to kick high and try for the 5-15 yd line rather than give up that automatic 5 yds. Unless, of course, opposing team has a dynamic kick returner.

Next–trying to eliminate cut blocks–we will see how that goes in the Navy game.

Speaking of Navy game–too much travel, too little time before the Purdue game. Should reschedule this for Thursday but NBC probably has a problem with that.
