Boston College Week

Before looking at BC, I am happy to report that 2013 ILB recruit Alex Anzalone has reconfirmed he is going to ND and will enroll in January. That’s the good news–the bad is that OT Tate Nicols career is probably over.

Final note on Pitt game. After watching that game I really don’t think ND can beat any team currently in the top 10. We would score 0 points on Alabama this year and probably 0 points next year.

Now BC–this will probably be Head Coach Frank Spaziani’s last year. His 4 year record as HC is 22-26 and he is 2-6 this year having beaten just Maine and Maryland. So you would think they have no chance against ND–think again, they harbor an undying hatred of ND( since we stole Frank Leahy away) and they will kill themselves to win this televised night game at Chestnut Hill.

This stadium and their fans will rain down venom as well as beer on the ND players and you would be hard pressed to find one sober fan in the stadium.

They really have nothing to lose and want this game for coach Spaz who has been there forever as an asst. coach and then head coach. He also is one of the finest guys in college football and a hell of a defensive coach–bet he enjoyed the ND-Pitt game to further his own game plan.

Need I add that it will be freezing at 8 PM.

BC was competitive against Miami earlier this year, losing a high scoring game and BC has a very good QB. Game has all the makings of an upset.

Let me see if I have this right. An 8-0 team ranked 4th in the nation has to go into triple overtime to beat a piss poor 5-4 Pitt team. Am I also seeing a team ranked 4th have 1st and goal from the 2 not only fail to score but actually go backward? Fuck it, this ND team is vastly over rated and is going to get killed by USC. Going and gone is Manti’s Heisman, undefeated season and drop out of top 10.

They can only stop the bleeding if they somehow keep it close vs. USC. For years ND has given the Heisman to USC QB’s and Barkley is now back in it after shredding Oregon even though losing the game. And guess what girls ND is no Oregon.

Don’t feel like I can write anything positive out of this game so I’ll just stop now.

ND vs. Hogwarts (err I mean PITT) Prediction!

Irish in LA Football Tagged

What’s  up ND true believers? It’s your man Irish In LA giving you all the prediction today. Unfortunately our fearless leader, The Editor, is holed up in the mountains of Lebanon NJ with no heat, no electricity, and surrounded by bears but he has plenty of cheap cigarettes and vodka to get him thru this catastrophe. Sadly he will not see the game. So I’m taking over. On to the prediction…

The news that three PITT players have been charged with assault has made this an another interesting week in the NCAA. What I find most unbelievable is the fact that one of the accused players was in a class with one of the victims. What class you ask? That’s right, a class on Vampires. I wish I had taken a class on Vampires when I was in college because I would feel a lot safer. Higher Education. PITT is setting the standard. Anyway, everyone thinks these guys should be suspended but they are still innocent until proven guilty. I think the punishment they will receive at the hands of Te’o and friends will be more than enough. They’ll wish they were playing Vampires.

So here we go!

Bonus: Special teams recovers a fumble today.

Pittsburgh Week

Well we start off this week with the good news that ILB recruit Alex Anzalone will be visiting ND this coming Sunday with both parents. He has a game Saturday so he will miss the Pitt game–there is a hurricane though in his neck of the woods. Fingers crossed as he plans to enroll early and little time left to accomplish that. Big win over Pitt would help a lot.

Let’s see what Pitt has been doing this season. New Head Coach Paul Chryst formerly OC at Wisconsin for last 7 years or so. I think he will turn the Pitt program around and you can bet your boots he would like to knock off the # 4 rated team. Pitt always plays ND tough and even our best teams have had trouble with them. They have a good experienced QB in 5th year Tino Sunseri who has 35 starts. They have a quality RB in Sr. Ray Graham plus a big RB recruit in Rushel Shell. So they can pass and run–they could be dangerous if ND not ready.

So in Big East and standing at 4-4 :

  • L–Youngstown State 31 – 17
  • L– Cincinnati 34 – 10
  • W– Virginia Tech 35 – 17
  • W–Gardner Weber?? 55 – 10
  • L– Syracuse 14 – 13
  • L– Louisville 45 – 35
  • W– Buffalo 20 – 6
  • W–Temple 47 – 17

So up and down season but they can score points.

Notre Dame has to pick it up, continue the momentum and not come out flat and sloppy. Time to show we belong with the big boys and blow out the teams we should–starting this Saturday.

Finally time to wrap up recruit Alex Anzalone and get him enrolled.

Notre Dame vs USC Scary Picture

Redemption Notre Dame 30 Oklahoma 13

Sold out stadium, away night game, hostile and fired up Sooner Nation , high flying Sooner offense, announcers Herbstreit and Brent Musberger calling the game–actually looking to pan ND as losers and still not relevant. Funny to see them eat crow.

Redemption for Brian Kelly–wins defining game, Redemption for Everett Golson–came of age and led his team to victory, Redemption for OG Mike Golic who played his best game and sprung the opening for Cierre Wood’s 62 yd TD run.

This was a beatdown of a very good Oklahoma team by both Notre Dames OL and DL. Oklahoma defense played the run and we still ran over and over again. Riddick’s 15 yard run for final TD sealed the game as the entire OL collapsed the Oklahoma defense.

Oklahoma QB Landry Jones threw 51 times-379 yds. 0 touchdowns. Oklahoma high powered rushing game held to under 50 yards.

Notre Dame rushed for 215 yards and Golson passed for 13-25 177 yds including a beautiful 50 yard pass completion to freshman Chris Brown.

This game brought back memories of the old ND teams that went anywhere and physically beat down the opponent–talk about wake up the echoes. This Oklahoma team was physically battered and exhausted by game’s end.

Manti Te’o is the best college player period. 12 tackles, thumping hits, a pick and a body slam sack of Landry Jones. He is the most dominant player in college football and is what the original Heisman Trophy was all about–football, academics, integrity and class of the individual. Manti is the most influential player on any college team–he is a game changer. He should win the Heisman going away.

Great victory and now 8–0, now let’s run the table.

Other news–Charlie Weis Kansas team just missed knocking off Texas and Arizona beat the thugs from USC. Top it off #3 Florida lost.

Great Saturday !!!!!!

Musings Before Tonights Game

GAIII– did not accompany the team to Okla.—-Flu

So who returns kickoffs–I’d put DaVonte Neal there. We need to get this kid into the offense Somehow.

Wonder what Aaron Lynch thinks now?

Lynch’s absence, however has given us a new look at the always steady but not spectacular old man of the team Kapron Moore–wow he has really turned it on.

Alex Anzalone–don’t know why he’s stretching this out–rumor has it he has already enrolled at Florida–he might be worried about the depth ND has–Jared Grace looks to get Manti’s job with plenty of eligibility. I also think some of the guys listed at Safety might bulk up and play ILB.

Still think we need a big back–in the 240 range. Like to get a big nose guard and, of course, some CB’s.

What the hell is going on Special Teams? Again why waste Neal just to fair catch. I’ve heard the excuses but just look back at what Zibby did. Punter has been pretty bad.

Finally, how about some imagination on offense.

Notre Dame VS. Oklahoma

When looking at these 2 teams a couple of things standout. Of course, for Notre Dame it’s Everett Golson. Will he finally grow up and play to his potential or will he come apart at the seams which he has done in all the games he’s been pulled.

Kelly has been babying this kid like I’ve never seen. I don’t expect a finished product but c’mon soph QB’s all over are lighting it up. Is Golson just Denard Robinson without the speed? Michigan coaches have been driven crazy by Denard and will be more than happy to see him go. So that said, it’s difficult to predict what ND offensive team will show up this Saturday led by Golson.

The second thing about this game that stands out is the fact that Oklahoma hasn’t really played anyone this year except Kansas State and certainly not any team that has the front seven of Notre Dame nor an OL that the Irish have.

I think the big 12 is a joke and while everyone has been pounding the Big 10 for being out of step, almost all the Big 10 teams have very good OL’s and DL’s. So I see a big advantage for the Irish–but, but, but Golson could lose it all by himself.

What I expect Oklahoma to do is simple–pass all day and if QB Landry Jones has the time it’s all over. I would blitz this kid crazy and if ND can get to him early and often they can blow out Oklahoma.

The big big deal here is for the ND defense to do this early for 3 passes coming on first 3 plays. Notre Dame will not win this game playing catch up. I think game can be won despite the QB play.

Now the 6’6” goon they bring in inside the ten–just break this kid in half and watch out for the fake run and short pass.

We need production from all the RB’s and why the hell can’t they throw a short pass to Davonte Neal???

If the ND OL and DL play lights out Notre Dame will win this game. Just remember Oklahoma is not USC– not anywhere near– Even though I think Arizona beats USC this weekend.

To get their team revved up for this game Oklahoma brought in that great steroid jacked, laughable student athlete Brian Bosworth for inspiration. Yes the great Boz who shrunk before your very eyes when drug deprived — didn’t last long in the NFL at all.

So let’s see if Brian Kelly is up to bringing an offensive game plan that he hasn’t done all year–this is a big game for Kelly and his staff to prove their big time and not just Div. 11 ND will survive regardless but coaches won’t.

Anyhow I’m not really that impressed that Oklahoma has played anyone.
